The beginning of summer is fast approaching! As the good weather hits, the rush to make summer plans follows quickly. Booking airlines and hotels can be quite a hassle and the prices add up. Many families these days are forgetting the stress of traveling and opting for a “staycation.”

What is a “Staycation” you may ask?

A Staycation is a mix between STAY and VACATION. The purpose is stop make it feel as much like a vacation as possible without leaving the comfort of your home or city.

Here are some ideas for a “Staycation” this Victoria Day Weekend for you and your family!

Plan a camp out in your backyard

Camping doesn’t have to be in the dirt with a ton of work. Planning a campout in your backyard sleeping under the stars can be both fun for the kids and a lot less work for the parents. Buy a few s’mores kits, have a fire, and play some back yard games. The possibilities are endless for a fun back yard camp out!

Plan a family hike

Whether you want a long hike or a short one with some ice cream at the end, Orillia is filled with many different hiking trails.  Take the dog, take the kids and enjoy the beautiful scenery Orillia has to offer!

Have a family game night

What’s more fun than family game night?! Grab some of your favourite snacks, beverages, and games for a fun filled night in. You can create a tournament, make it competitive by having a points system with prizes, or create teams. The possibilities are endless, but a little family competition is always a good idea.

Go Bowling

Play a game of bowling with the family or with your friends. If you have kids, be sure to check out kidsbowlfree.com in order to enjoy free bowling for kids this summer! Take advantage of this sweet deal.

Movie Marathon

What better way to spend a day or night than a movie marathon. Enjoy your favourite snacks, make some movie theatre styled popcorn, and enjoy a few movies. Whether you watch a whole series (Lord Of The Rings, Starwars ect.) or have everyone chose their favourite, a movie marathon is sure to be a hit!

Finally, here is a list of things happening locally this weekend:
